And it is time for the second of five Suicide Ali translations. :D This time we have Ko o Egaku Yamai, which is about... death by hanging. Again. O.o It has a really cool sound though, especially the haunting, plinky instrumentation in the intro. As for the title, it was kinda hard to put into English... once again it's one of those things that's better understood as a concept than words. "Ko o egaku" means to draw/trace/follow the path of an arc, and "yamai" is like, disease... and the song is about the things that go through one's mind as one is hanging by a rope around one's neck and helplessly swaying back and forth. I'm pretty sure that swaying motion is what the "arcing" part represents. Hopefully that gives you a more clear understanding of the title. Anyway, here you go... enjoy! SUICIDE ALI - KO O EGAKU YAMAI (ARCING SYNDROME) Chinurareta te to shijima ni tsurareta karada Yurasu yurasu Deguchi no kieta usugurai hako no naka de Omou omou Kizukarezu... Awaku yuragu kono inochi o nagame Kako o furikaeru dake de Bokura wa itsumo nejireta shikai o mae ni Hitori hitori Kizukarezu... Awaku yuragu kono inochi o idaki Ayumu hodo yowaku naru Mukanjou na kabe ni (nando mo) tsume o tate Furioroshite mita kedo Nukedasenai Nani mo todokanai Nani mo kotaenai Tada owari dake ga mieru Tada owari dake ga mieru Boku wa iranai mono Motomerarenai mono Sasayaka ni yurete... yurete... In English: My blood-soaked hands and my hanged body Swinging, swinging Inside this dark box with no way out Thinking, thinking Never realizing... Gazing at this faintly wavering life I am merely looking back at the past The view before us is always warped Alone, alone Never realizing... Embracing this faintly wavering life I grow weaker the further I walk Clawing at the emotionless wall (over and over) I tried to let myself down, but I can't escape I can't reach anything I can't find the answer All I can see is the end All I can see is the end I am not needed I am not wanted I'm only swaying... swaying... Yay, another one out of the way! And no footnotes! :O But don't think that means this one was easy. >> As always, a couple parts had me sweating for a good while. Not the least of which being the title itself. But hey, it's done and I like how it came out. ^-^ (disclaimer: this song belongs to Suicide Ali, not me. I only take credit for the romanization and translation. I'm just a fangirl trying to make J-music a little more accessible to Americans. No copyright infringement is intended. I'm always finding Japanese songs that I adore, but can't find English translations for. So I've made a hobby of translating such songs, and this is where I put them. Can't find the song you want? Send me the lyrics (kanji if possible, but romaji will do) and I'll see what I can do. But no promises, as I'm not exactly the most fluent Japanese speaker around. Also, PLEASE don't display any of these lyrics elsewhere unless you credit me. Just my name and a link back here would be great. Thanks!
