If I had any common sense, I'd try to get my Oboro, Sakura, and Prayer translations cleaned up and ready for public viewing before jumping into another one, but I want to see these Bloodtype tracks translated, like... now. XP Plus, I never claimed to have common sense. So two remain, and to be honest, they're both making me nervous. I can tell from the rudimentary Japanese in my vocabulary that they will not be easy to translate. So... I guess I'll start with Meviusu no Wa, simply because it's shorter. Now, this song doesn't seem to get a lot of attention among the fanbase, but I quite like it... it's smooth, serene, ethereal, and a little trance-y all at once, with just a bit of eerie thrown in via the whispered Engrish verses. As the mistress of a BLOOD fansite which is no longer being updated once said, this would make a great driving song. I'm not really sure why, though... but it would. Especially in a convertible, or with the windows rolled down. I can sense all the sounds of the world flying by me when I listen to it, and you can't get that feeling in a closed-up car. :P As for the title... BLOOD themselves romanize the 'Meviusu' of the original Japanese title as 'Mebious.' I have absolutely no idea who or what Mebious/Meviusu is. If anyone out there does, please let me know. Also, allow me to note again that the Engl(r)ish verses are transcribed exactly as they appear in the lyrics sheet. Ok. ><;; First of all let me say that I think the English verses are supposed to, in part at least, be BLOOD's own translation of the first line of each verse (the "as I spend an hundred thousands/hundred millions/eternal time" stuff). The only problem is that this kind of phrase makes sense enough in Japanese, but there's no way to put it into logical English without potentially changing its entire meaning. >_< Basically, in English, when you say you "spend time," you're expected to go on to say what particular activity you spend time doing. But in this song, "spending time" should be viewed as more like "passing time," with no specific activity in mind. Just... existing. Being. Also, that word "kake" that comes up in each of these verses is written in hiragana as opposed to kanji, and it's one of those words that can have a LOT of totally different meanings depending on how it's written. But I went with the assumption that it's supposed to be pretty much the same thing as the English verses ("spending" time), as I said, so that's why I translated it as I did. So... since the English lyrics make no sense ><, what the heck is all this supposed to mean? I have my theories. Number one: it's about soulmates, born for each other, who were lucky enough to find each other and are now stargazing together. Number two: the big concept here is time, or specifically the eternity and perpetuity ('thousands' of times), etc. thereof. Basically I see it as the narrator's musing that time has no beginning and no end, but just goes on infinitely in either direction - and for emphasis' sake, when one eternity ends, it's followed by thousands more. That's a lot of 'times,' no? :P The narrator and the person he's addressing, then, parallel this concept of time: they have been in existence in some form (as souls, shadows, dreams, memories-yet-to-be, call it what you like) since the beginning of eternity, so to speak, and were born into this ephemeral world at two random points in that eternal continuum, which both happened to be around the same single point in time. Just so they could spend that little piece of eternity together, two soulmates shining like the stars in the heavens. All of this contemplation comes to the narrator as he observes those stars they're watching together, which, just like he and his soulmate, have also been in existence one way or another through all eternity, "spending an eternal time." That probably doesn't make much more sense than the English lyrics did. *sigh* Still, wouldn't I love to have someone writing a work of art like Mebious' Loop just for me... I'm always finding Japanese songs that I adore, but can't find English translations for. So I've made a hobby of translating such songs, and this is where I put them. Can't find the song you want? Send me the lyrics (kanji if possible, but romaji will do) and I'll see what I can do. But no promises, as I'm not exactly the most fluent Japanese speaker around.
