*Edited January 22, '05* Having trouble finding a suitable template and my comments server's being a butt, so that stuff's gonna be a while yet. Meanwhile, enjoy my first translation. Well, not my first... my latest, actually... but the first one to be posted here. Yeah. Today we have Shiawase na Ketsumatsu by Ohtaki Eiichi, also known as the opening theme of the tremendously popular 1997 J-drama Love Generation, starring Matsu Takako and Kimura Takuya. I adore this series, I adore Takako-chan and KimuTaku, and the song just... makes my heart go 'squee'. *-* Lyrically, it's pretty much just a classic love song, but the sound brings it together. It has this sweet, melancholy feel, the rhythm is smooth and catchy, and Ohtaki-san's voice is so fluid and deep, it just makes me shiver. Highly recommended for you sappy types. ^^ So, without further ado... OHTAKI EIICHI - SHIAWASE NA KETSUMATSU (A HAPPY ENDING) Kami o hodoita kimi no shigusa ga Naiteiru you de mune ga sawagu yo Furikaeru no wa owari ni shiyou Hoka no dare de mo naku Konya kimi wa boku no mono Samishii kimochi kakushite warau Tsuyogaru kimi kara me ga hanasenai Kinou ja nakute, ashita ja nakute Kaeshitaku nai kara Konya kimi wa boku no mono Odoridasu machi ni futari no ima o Sagashitsuzukete hashaida ano hi Sayounara iu yo, utsuro na koi ni Itsumademo hanasanai Konya kimi wa boku no mono Hashiridasu machi de futari no ashita Yume ni egaite mitsuketa yoake Afureru omoi osaekirenai Shiawase na ketsumatsu kitto mitsukeru Ima nara ieru, sunao ni nareru Itsumademo aishiteru Konya kimi wa boku no mono Konya kimi wa boku no mono Konya kimi wa boku no mono Baby you're mine... In English: The way you look when you've let down your hair As if I were crying, makes my heart excited Let's put an end to looking back There's no one else Tonight, you're mine I hide my loneliness and laugh I can't take my eyes off of you, acting tough Not yesterday, not tomorrow I don't want to go back, so Tonight, you're mine In the street where we go on dancing On that day we kicked up our heels, continuing to search Say goodbye to empty passion I'll never let you go Tonight, you're mine In the street where we go on running, We found the dawning of our tomorrow, drawn in a dream I can't control this overflowing love Surely we'll find a happy ending Now, I can say it - I can become faithful to you I'll love you forever Tonight, you're mine Tonight, you're mine Tonight, you're mine Baby you're mine... This was probably the easiest translation I've faced yet. No footnotes! Usually I end up with half a dozen footnotes... *amazed* Of course, I'm sure that doesn't mean this is a perfect interpretation. But I'm satisfied. And of course, if anyone out there who knows Japanese better than me sees anything that should be changed or reworded, do feel free to let me know. One of these days I'll link my email address around here somewhere... but until then, you can send me comments, corrections, requests, etc. by simply leaving a comment. More translations to come~! (disclaimer: this song belongs to Ohtaki Eiichi, not me. Romanization was borrowed from JDorama.com, though it can be found in many places. I only take credit for the translation. I'm just a fangirl trying to make J-music a little more accessible to Americans. No copyright infringement is intended. Please don't sue me, I'm a poor college student. I'm always finding Japanese songs that I adore, but can't find English translations for. So I've made a hobby of translating such songs, and this is where I put them. Can't find the song you want? Send me the lyrics (kanji if possible, but romaji will do) and I'll see what I can do. But no promises, as I'm not exactly the most fluent Japanese speaker around. Also, PLEASE don't display any of these lyrics elsewhere unless you credit me. Just my name and a link back here would be great. Thanks!
